Adventure is a way of life at Hacienda Pozo Azul, a 600-acre (270 ha) ranch designed to get your heart rate going. Snake gardens, white-water rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, rappelling, hiking and canopy tours are just a few of the many fun activities to choose from. If you would rather take it easy visit the museum of indigenous culture, butterfly farm featuring exotic regional species or inventive dairy farm where Holstein cattle is raised in an artificial habitat powered by their own manure.

After the warm-up session reach for the top of the trees. The canopy tour takes you above the rainforest through 12 zip lines and 15 platforms. TIRIMBINA RAINFOREST CENTER
The rainforest doesn’t sleep at night. Thousands of animals and insects run around hiding in the darkness, a nocturnal display that had never been seen by visitors until Tirimbina Rainforest Center came along. The reserve offers the unique opportunity to safely venture into the woods after dark. The guided tour features the natural echoes and shadows of the dreamy habitat.
Tirimbina is also home of the largest suspension bridge in the country, stretching for 290 yards (262 m) from the Sarapiquí river into the reserve’s entrance. The walk above the trees gives you a different perspective of the green exuberance beneath you and life above the forest.

SAFARI BOAT
The most innovative way to experience nature is the safari boat through the Sarapiquí river. Leaving from the dock at the nearby town of Puerto Viejo, the tour takes you on a lazy journey through the peaceful canal.
Crocodiles, sloths, monkeys, turtles and tropical birds gaze from the river banks as the boat makes its way through the lush vegetation and wildlife galore. Have your binoculars handy and ask your guide to point out the different animal and plant species. You may even spot the rare “blue jeans frog”, a tiny but very poisonous amphibious that hides in the tropical habitat.
